Media Statement on the Killing and Attack of our Law Enforcement Officers

The Municipality would like to convey its deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Warrant Officer Venty Nkosi and speedy recovery to Sergeant J.V Tlou who is recovering after he sustained gunshot wounds. Both officers were ambushed in the line of duty in the early hours of Saturday morning whilst conducting their normal night duty operations aimed at intensifying the fight against cable theft.

When the members of the law enforcement approached the said scene, the suspects fired several rounds of gun shots at them. Warrant Officer Venty Nkosi, was brutally murdered and was declared dead by paramedics on the scene and Sergeant J.V Tlou is still in a stable but critical condition.

The challenge of cable theft has gone out of control, we have now lost a soul, a husband, a father and a committed service delivery soldier. The leadership collective of ELM condemns this barbaric act in the strongest terms possible.

More than ever before, there is a need to mobilize what ever resources at our disposal to stop this anarchy once and for all, lest we lose more employees and innocent souls from these desperate criminal acts of sabotage with a potential to collapse our beautiful city and service delivery machinery if it is allowed to go on beyond this point, enough its enough.

The police are are doing their best to apprehend the suspects. Working together with our communities will spare no efforts in supporting the police and to ensure that the suspects are traced and brought to book.

At this point we encourage the perpetrators to hand themselves over so that even if it won't bring back this outstanding and dedicated servant of the people but at least the family and the Greater Emalahleni community will get closure and understand why they did what they did,the Municipality takes a bow to this gallant soldier.
