A special Council Sitting was held on Tuesday ,13 May 2025 at the Emalahleni Local Municipality’s Council Chamber for the election of the Speaker of Council and the Chief Whip in terms of the Municipal Structures Act , Act 117 of 1998 as amended .

The following councillors were elected and sworn in the following positions:

Speaker of Council: Cllr. M.N.Shabangu
Whip of the Council:
Cllr. G.S Koko

The Executive Mayor announced changes to the Members of the Mayoral Commitee as follows :

Cllr. T.T Mathebula will serve as the Member of the Mayoral Commitee ( MMC ) for the portfolio: Technical Services

Cllr. S.S Buthelezi will serve as the MMC  for the portfolio: Community Services.

The two councillors were sworn into the Mayoral Commitee by the Magistrate.

Furthermore ,the following changes were made with the composition of the MMCs:

1.MMC for Developmental Planning :
Cllr. N. H Mokwana

and

2.MMC for Environmental and Waste Management:
Cllr K.B Maphosa
