MEDIA STATEMENT: EMALAHLENI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY REFUTES ALLEGATIONS OF WATER QUALITY

The Emalahleni Local Municipality is committed to providing safe and high-quality water to the residents and communities we serve.
 
In response to recent allegations regarding water quality, we would like to address these concerns and provide clear, factual information to reassure the public.
 
The  Municipality would like to emphasize that the water supplied to our customers meets all regulatory standards and is safe for consumption. Regular testing and monitoring of water quality are conducted in accordance with South African National Standards (SANAS)  and guidelines.
 
These tests have consistently demonstrated that our water meets or exceeds all safety and quality requirements.
 
We are aware of the concerns raised by Ms M.P Chiloane (Environmental Health Practitioner) and we take these concerns seriously. We would like to request her to provide us with the tests she made and the name of the Laboratory she used. 
It is important to note that our water treatment and purification processes are designed to ensure that the water is of the highest quality. These processes include filtration, disinfection, and pH balancing, among others, to remove contaminants and provide safe, clean water to our customers.
 
The Municipality complies with all relevant regulations and standards established by regulatory agencies (SANAS). Our operations are subject to rigorous oversight and we are committed to adhering to all requirements to maintain the safety and quality of the water supply.
 
We understand that transparency and open communication are essential in addressing concerns about water quality.
 
As part of our commitment to the community, we will be engaging with the Department of Health and seek the tests made by them and request them to provide us with their samples.
 
In addition, we are actively engaging with independent experts and organizations to conduct a comprehensive review of our water quality management practices. This independent assessment will provide an unbiased evaluation of our systems and processes, further validating the safety and quality of our water supply.
 
The Municipality wants to reassure the community that we are dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and high-quality water. Our team is committed to continuous improvement in water quality management, and we will continue to invest in infrastructure upgrades and the latest technologies to ensure the ongoing safety and quality of the water supply.
 
Our priority is to ensure that every resident has access to clean, safe water, and we are committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of the community.
Communications Unit

The communication is a strategic function. The unit deals with Internal & External Communication, Conducting imbizo Programmes, Media and stakeholder liaison, media production, marketing and branding. The municipality has adopted the communication strategy, which entails the channels and tools of communicating to the stakeholders. These channels and tools are amongst other municipal website, municipal face-book, local print and electronic media.
